An assistant should complete a defined sales task
An AI sales assistant uses approved business information to help with parts of a selling conversation. Depending on its connected systems, it may explain a product, respond to an objection, follow up on a permitted schedule, share checkout, or arrange a requested appointment. The label alone does not establish any of those actions.
Start with a job your team already performs. For an ecommerce brand, that might be helping shoppers compare two products. For a telehealth business, it might be explaining how to reorder an approved supplement while sending suitability questions to a qualified professional. Your evaluation should follow that job from inquiry to a verified next step.
Separate suggested answers from autonomous actions
Some assistants draft responses for a person to approve. Others speak or send messages directly within configured limits. Ask which mode applies to each channel and action, and who can intervene. A demonstration of a drafted email does not establish an autonomous voice workflow.
System actions also differ. Sharing a link is not placing an order, and capturing a preferred appointment time is not confirming a booking. Require the provider to demonstrate the event that establishes completion. When a connection fails, the customer and staff owner should know what remains incomplete.
Prepare the information that makes the answer useful
Build an answer set around product differences, prices, delivery, returns, and the objections customers raise. Attach a source and business owner to each answer. Set an update process when the catalog or policy changes.
Write down what the assistant cannot promise. Discounts, refunds, stock availability, account changes, and medical suitability may require a live source or a person. If the system cannot verify an answer, it should not improvise one to keep the conversation moving.
Treat follow-up as an owned workflow
A useful follow-up responds to the lead’s last question and current state. It needs valid contact permission, approved timing, an attempt limit, and a reason to respond. A reply, staff takeover, opt-out, or verified purchase should change the next action.
Test an unanswered inquiry that later buys through another channel. Confirm whether the configured deployment receives that purchase signal. If it does not, agree a fallback rather than assuming the assistant knows every transaction in the business.
Run an evaluation your team can repeat
Use the same fictional inquiry across providers. Test the normal purchase, an uncertain answer, a product exception, a request for a person, an opt-out, and a failed connection. Record the expected behavior and the observed result.
The free Crypture AI sales evaluation kit includes a reusable scorecard. Score an unsupported promise or ignored opt-out as a launch-blocking problem, even if the average result looks good. A high overall score should never hide a critical failure.
Compare the full operating model
Include setup, usage, communications charges, integration work, and staff review when comparing costs. Ask who maintains approved answers and investigates incomplete actions. Those responsibilities affect how much work remains with your team.
Crypture offers voice, SMS, and WhatsApp sales conversations with approved answers and daily follow-up rules. Its product walkthrough illustrates ownership and stop conditions. Your written scope should confirm the actual connections, actions, support, and commercial terms for your deployment.
What to ask the provider to demonstrate
| Claim | Evidence | Failure case |
|---|---|---|
| Answers product questions | Approved answer source | Missing or outdated answer |
| Follows up | Eligibility and next action | Reply or opt-out before next touch |
| Helps customers buy | Supported checkout action | Expired link or failed action |
| Confirms completion | Accepted purchase or booking event | No completion signal |
| Hands off to staff | Assigned destination and owner | Owner unavailable |
Use the same requirements across vendors. These are procurement tests, not a certification.
